Active ingredient:

taurine – 40 mg

Excipients:

methyl parahydroxybenzoate – 1.0 mg

sodium hydroxide solution 1 M to pH 5.0–6.5

Water for injection – up to 1 ml

Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics

An anti-cataract agent with a metabolic effect. Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid formed in the body during the conversion of ciscein. It stimulates repair and regeneration processes in degenerative diseases and diseases accompanied by severe metabolic disturbances in ocular tissue.

It helps normalize cell membrane function, activates energy and metabolic processes, maintains the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm by accumulating K+ and Ca2+, and also improves nerve impulse conduction.

Pharmacokinetics

Systemic absorption is low with topical application.

Indications

This medication is used as part of combination therapy for corneal dystrophy, cataracts (senile, traumatic, radiation, diabetic), and corneal trauma (as a stimulator of reparative processes).

Primary open-angle glaucoma in combination with β-blockers (for topical ophthalmic use (to improve aqueous humor outflow)).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients; children under 18 years of age.

Allergic reactions are possible.

How to take, course of administration, and dosage of Taufon Drops Taurine 4%

Topically by instillation into the conjunctival sac.

For cataracts, 1–2 drops 2–4 times daily for three months. Repeat the course at monthly intervals.

For corneal trauma and degenerative diseases, use the same doses for one month.

For open-angle glaucoma (in combination with topical beta-blockers): 1–2 drops 2 times daily, 15–20 minutes before one of the topical beta-blockers, for 6 weeks, followed by a 2-week discontinuation.

Dropper Instructions

To puncture the neck, apply some force and turn the cap clockwise until the bottom edge of the cap touches the body of the dropper bottle.

After puncturing the neck, turn the cap counterclockwise and remove it.

Instill the drops into the eyes by pressing on the body of the dropper bottle.

To close the dropper bottle, replace the cap and turn it clockwise until the bottom edge of the cap fits into the dropper bottle.

Use this medication only as directed, as directed, and at the dosages specified in the instructions.

Interactions of Taufon Drops Taurine 4%

In patients with open-angle glaucoma, a significant increase in the hypotensive effect of beta-blockers (timolol, etc.) has been observed when combined with taurine. This enhanced effect is achieved by increasing the outflow rate and reducing the production of intraocular fluid.

If you are using any of the above medications or other medications (including over-the-counter medications), consult your doctor before using Taufon.

Special instructions

The dropper bottle containing the medication must be strictly individual.

Avoid touching the dropper tip, as this may contaminate the contents.

You need to close the bottle with the pipette after each use.

If other ophthalmic medications (eye drops, etc.) must be used concurrently, leave at least 10-15 minutes between taurine and the other medications. You should apply eye ointments last.

The preservative contained in this medication may irritate the eye when worn with contact lenses. Therefore, any contact lenses should be removed before instillation and reinserted no sooner than 15 minutes after instillation.
